Lionel, Lion-Man
Lionel was born in Poland, in 1890, as Stephan Bibrowski. Every part of his body was covered with hair except the bottoms of his feet and the palms of his hands. Lionel came to the U.S. about 1902 under contract with P.T. Barnum. He was a huge success earning a reported $500.00 a week. Lionel never appeared on a public street. He was an avid reader and learned to speak seven languages. Lionel went on several world tours. Lionel died in Italy in 1932. This photo was taken in 1907.
