TV Life - VOL. 1 NO. 2 NOV. 1953
Arthur Godfrey drank Lipton Tea, smoked Chersterfield cigarettes, sang, played ukulele, had a palamino horse named Goldie and fired his co-host, Julius LaRosa, live on the air. What's not to like? The girl who's "too sexy" is Gloria Stavers. She was the genius mastermind of Sixteen Magazine. She used a sort of teen shorthand with words like fave (favortite) and Cuz (because). Gloria paid close attention to the fan letters sent mostly by teen & preteen girls, and based her magazine on their whims and wants. She also photographed the bands. Tony Barrow, press officer to the Beatles, credits Stavers with providing "significant help" towards the task of fast-tracking the lads to the top of US charts.
