The Cynodictis
This is a dog-like mammal from 40 million years ago. It looked a bit like a cat, but did not possess retractable claws. This creature is sometimes referred to as an in-between. They existed for about 8.8 million years. Cynodictis lived on the grassy plains of North America and had great digging skills. They were low slung and about 30 cm long. They chased down smaller mammals, dug them up from the underground and possibly had the ability to climb trees in pursuit of tree dwelling prey.
